ABSOLUTE CASINO AND POKER PARTY RENTALS

History of Gambling

In 1748, Benjamin Franklin helped organize a Pennsylvania lottery "to raise three thousand pounds for military supplies to defend Philadelphia against Frenchmen and Indians."

Poker played a large role in the history of frontiersmen as the adventure of traversing the continent in search of wealth can quite easily be compared to the risk taking, excitement and hopes of prosperity from a good poker game. It is believed by many that the common qualities of these two actions are what made gambling so popular in the west.

Gambling made its way from the south, up the Mississippi River, as aristocratic travelers engaged in gambling on river-boats as they headed north. Eventually, flashy river-boats were designed specifically to attract gamblers - hence the historical 'river boat gambling era' of the early to mid 1800's. This was brought to an abrupt end by the Civil War as the river ways were needed to carry supplies. Starting with the 1940's, casinos became legal in certain states, until present day where most states have some form of casino gambling or another. Between 1987 and 1988, Native Tribe's were given the rights to operate casinos without interference from state or federal governments and regulations. The only requirement was that a Native Tribe Casino may only operate in a state where casino operations in general are legal.

In the United States, casino gambling dates back to what is known as the "Bugsy" era. The Bugsy era began in the 1940's and Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel was credited for starting the great casino gambling Las Vegas became recognized for at that time. In truth, it was a group of men who made Las Vegas what it is today. Men like Binion Horseshoe's original owner, Benny Binion can be credited with the growth Las Vegas was able to see early on. Later men such as Bob Stupak, Ted and Jack Binion and Steve Wynn became regular names along with so many others. Las Vegas' casino history is as varied as the players who visit there each year.

Casino gambling has a very interesting history. Since its humble beginnings as a public hall for music and dancing, casinos now offer more than the music and dancing which now is primarily found in designated areas. However, the noise everyone gets excited about now defines casino gambling. It's the ching-chang of a slot machine paying out and the yelling and cheering at the craps or roulette table. Casino gambling is about winning and the opportunity to win is everywhere and on every continent. Gambling is here to stay and its very humble beginnings may have initiated a slow start but the growth of the casinos has proven casinos will be around indefinitely.

During the early 20th century in America, gambling became outlawed and banned by state legislation and reformers of the time. However, in 1931, gambling was legalized throughout state of Nevada, and Las Vegas, presently known as "Sin City", spawned America's first casinos. Soon after, in the state of New Jersey, Atlantic City joined the Casino industry in to become America's second largest gambling city. Another regional center for gaming in the US is in Tunica Resorts, Mississippi and in the Gulf Coast region around Biloxi. In most jurisdictions worldwide, gambling is limited to persons over the age of 18 or 21 years in most of the States and 16 to 21 in most other countries where casinos are legal.
